2011 Spring Schedule

March

5th - Vernal pool/springs hike  Scenic watershed hike. Moderate 6 mile round-trip with 1,00ft. elevation. Early wildflowers

12th - Redwood grove hike.  Lichens, sorrel, trilliums in bloom. Moderate 5 mile round-trip with low water creek crossing.

19th - Overlook range hike.  Moderate 4 mile hike with 600ft. elevation across range to Reeves canyon. Views of Eagle peak. Carpool to Leonard Lake for nature walk. Sign-up limit 12.

26th - Animal tracks.  Walk with certified tracker identifying signs of wildlife.  Easy, 3 mile round-trip.

April

2nd - Walker lake boundary hike.  Hike through redwoods and beyond to lake spillway.  Moderate 6 mile round-trip with low water creek crossing.

9th - Vernal pool/springs hike.  Scenic watershed hike. Moderate 6 mile round-trip with 1,100ft. elevation.

16th - Riparian area walk.  Newts, turtles, birds and spring wildflowers. Easy 3 mile round-trip.

23th - Turtle pond/canyon barn trail. A.M. wildflower identify walk. Easy and under a mile. After lunch join a 2nd walk, easy 3 mile round-trip.

30th - White deer lake hike. Wild flower meadows, oak woodlands, scenic lake. Moderate 5 mile round-trip with 500ft. elevation.

May

14th - Glorious wildflower walk. Easy 4 mile round-trip along dirt roads and through open meadows.

 


...........Enjoy Your Walk!......Be Prepared......

Knowledgeable naturalists, herbalists, birders, and animal trackers are along on most trips.
Start time is 10 am. except when noted.  Outing duration will vary from 3 to 6 hours.  Children 10 and older are welcome.  Each trip registration limit is 12 persons.
Proper footwear is essential; early spring trips can be muddy good fun, and some have creek crossings.
Wear appropriate (layered) clothing. Protect yourself from sun, rain, mosquitoes, ticks, and poison oak.  In your pack carry water and energy snacks.  You may also want to bring your camera, binoculars, magnifier, and field guide.
